I wish I was greener. I wish I did more for the environment. For 2008 I have made a vow not to collect or be given any more plastic shopping bags.
We know that plastic shopping bags are bad. We know that they take 20 to 1000 years to break down and each bag we use only adds to the problem – because the bags simply accumulate. Unfortunately we cannot escape the fact that plastic shopping bags have a large detrimental effect on the environment.
So – in an effort to help inspire you to not use any more plastic shopping bags - I have made an alternative shopping bag - the Green Bunny Bag.
The bag is made from sturdy calico (15"w x 16"h) and folds down to 4”x4” to neatly sit in the bottom of your handbag.
If anyone tries to give you a plastic bag again – whip out the Green Bunny Bag – refuse the plastic bag – and try to inspire someone else to do the same.
To win this bag in my green bunny giveaway– please leave a comment on this post before 12 noon EST on Valentines Day! (I'll send the Green Bunny Bag to you no matter were you live but please include your URL or an email address or some way I can contact you in your comment.)

So absolutely adorable! Are you going to offer them for sale?
Hi Rae - yes I am going to have them in my Etsy Store soon. If you send me an e-mail to rachael@rachaelrabbit.com I'll make sure you are entered in the draw for this giveaway and I'll let you know as soon as they are on Etsy. Thank you so much for visiting Rachael Rabbit.
Hello
oooooh that little green bunny sillouette is so adorable, yes pretty pleeeeease do enter me in for a chance to take it shopping with me.
On the subject of bags, I have recently moved to a new town and have discovered that there is a "Town Charter" drawn up with the majority of shop holders to try and elimiate plastic bags from our town, it is fabulous, I was made to feel very bad in the supermarket for sheepishly asking for a bag when I had forgotten to bring my own!
I have been looking for a lovely alternative that folds down small enough to fit into my handbag and your green rabbit would be oh-so-perfect!
Have a lovely day

Oh yes! I am a green bunny :D :D Please enter me...I'd love one!
This is so cute and folds away perfectly small. I wonder if any handbag designers are considering building an additional inside pocket (similar to those for mobile phones) for reuseable totes. It might be a nice idea and a matching tote might even be included.
Such a cute bunny bag!
I made the very same resolution! I have been thinking about sewing some of my own, just think of all the wonderful colors and patterns... very cute!
How fantastic! I came to your blog through Craft Magazine, and this is a great idea, and so cute.
hi! please enter me in for a bag, I've got a bag that I keep in the car, but I need more...I rarely buy just one bag of groceries. Very nice and great idea!
This is ADORABLE. I would love to win it!
so incredibly cute!
Great way to drum up support for a great cause!
aww, this is so cute! i need one!
What a great bag! We always seem to be one short.
I love the bunny. I made a knit grocery bag but am always a little nervous when I put the heavy stuff in it. I would love to win the bag!
By offering this bag you not only encourage others to be a little greener...but in the process to be a little nicer and a little more generous, too. Love the ripple effect .
What a great bag! It's so cute! Please enter me in your drawing. - sasalomone@gmail.com
You did a great job with this adorable bag. I have one reusable bag that I made from fusing plastic newspaper bags and sewing them into a grocery tote, but I really need more than one bag - I'd love to get one of these!
I love the bag! I keep a pile of bags in my car so I don't forget them when I shop.
Great idea, great bag!
Such a cute bag! :)
SWEET bag.
Thanks for the comment on my blog! And your green bunny bag is adorable!
Cheryl
for the new year, i also made a new resolution to craft and live green! there is so much waste going on and I'm determined to cut my share out!
What an adorable design! I think I've fallen in love. I'd love to be entered for a chance to win one! I've been wanting to switch over to reusable bags when I go grocery shopping. The grocery store where I live has decided that everything has to be bagged in plastic, and on top of that, they bag things so that there's only one to four things per bag. I feel like I'm killing them environment every week. This would be a fantastic alternative.

Love the green bunny on the bag...so cute!
adamandem@yahoo.com
Wow! If I had a reusable tote that stylish I would never forget to take it with me like I do now.
Love the bags! I made a similar pledge this year. Our Kroger has been selling reusable bags. I bought 4, but they're definitely not as cute (or foldable) as yours. For every reusable bag you use (doesn't matter what kind), you get $.04 back. I'll actually EARN money this year.
such a cute bag!
very good idea;) I'm trying too to use less or none plastic bags

Adorable. We just got a bunny today. We love him already!
That is so cute! And useful. And I love bunnies (but then - who doesn't?)

Do you sell these in your etsy? I'm off to check it out now.
I want to make the same change for 2008. I love your green bunny!
Hanane
I have a similar goal this year. I started by making my mom a bag to take to the farmers' market, and decided I could make myself some so that I would not be taking home plastic bags. I love your recycling rabbit.
Oh, so cute! I love the bunny.

I came to the internet seeking a pattern for reusable grocery bags & found your Green Bunny. Our toddler likes rabbits, so this bag will be easy for him to remember, too. Maybe this seems like an obvious question, but. . . if we don't throw our trash in reused plastic sacks, do we just dump it straight into the garbage can?
These bags are so cute! I constantly find myself forgetting my green bags when I go shopping, but if I can show off my bunny pride with every purchase I doubt I'd forget them. I'd love to be entered in your raffle. My 4 house rabbits would appreciate it! aloha420wsm[at]tmail[dot]com
Thanks!
wow! and big ups for getting on the craft blog!
xoxo,
Marie
Okay. That bag is beyond adorable... way cuter than the bags I was going to buy at the grocery store! ;)
I'd love to be entered in the draw - tigerlilies at gmail dot com. And thanks for doing this!
I would love to get a bunny bag! Please put me in the raffle!
I love that bag! I too have a serious aversion to plastic bags. Rock on!
Very, very cute! I'll buy one or two when you put them on sale.

Oh yes, please do enter me! I love using re-usable bags. So much so, that I recently found myself plastic bag-less trying to do the kitty litter! Thanks for having such a great contest:D
so adorable! i want one so much, you should sell them on etsy ;) i'd buy one! i've been meaning to make my own too. this year i'd like to give canvas bags for christmas to friends and family to help out the environment.

I love it!
That's a cute little bunny bag! Love it!
The bag is adorable! Love that bun :)
It's a great design, love the bunny/recycle shape, perfect. And my daughter's name is Rachael too
I just love your green bunny bag. It's adorable and a very smart choice compared to plastic bags. I think it's a great idea.
I am also trying to be more green this year. I feel really good knowing that so many people care about our planet and the future of our children and that we're all trying in our own way. I think one of the easiest things to do is what you're doing by not using any more plastic bags. Your bag is not only cute but it's cool, too! I wouldn't mind using one like it!.....analilia

So cute! I use a hodgepodge collection of canvas bags to go shopping but this one would be the cutest!!!
staceyrothrock@yahoo.com
so cute!!! i've been looking for a bag like this for a while now!!!
perfect for low impact consumption! here is a survival kit repost from the ID project:
"Low Impact Survival Kit
One of the big insights that came from those of us who did the practice last time was that if you started out with a few key pieces of equipment, which you carried at all times, it became really easy to cut down on waste and actually saved money too.
Drink bottle : mason jar, canteen, what have you, but try to avoid plastic since they are suspected of leaching chemicals and are generally less environmentally friendly
Container for food/left-overs: tiffin box, tupperware, fabric wrappers
Shopping bag: nylon, canvas, string bags
Chopsticks, silverware: bamboo and eco-plastics
Cloth napkin
Handkerchief"
pretty cool, eh?
Beautiful! I really need to start shopping with reusable bags again.
skyrockket[at]gmail[dot]com

so great!! i want, please!!
I'm trying to be good about never using plastic bags either. I love your bunny bag and would happily carry it to the store and show it off.
So fabulous! Please enter me in the draw...that bag would be so much cuter than my reusable bags from the grocery store or my slightly cliché "i'm not a plastic bag" bag.

That bag is super-cute! ^^ It would definitely inspire me and others to stop using so many wasteful plastic bags!
This is an adorable design!

I LOVE your new bag - I have also made a similar decision to try to be "greener" in 2008 - I decided to purchase the 100% green energy package from my NYSEG provider, even though it is about $20.00 more per month...every little bit counts!

Awesome design, and congratulations on being featured on Craft's blog. Sign me up for the drawing; lately fabric rabbits have been in my life a lot, especially a blue silk with white rabbits I used to line a bag.
Anyhow, count me in, and I bet you'll have great luck selling these!

Hi Rachael,
I am so very happy to see this post! What a PERFECT bunny bag! Good luck with your New Year's resolution, glad to hear about it, especially since you know how much I care as well in my household /everything what is possible is organic, and biodegradable -including diapers, detergents, dish liquid etc.../. Always amazed by your art!
Timi
I think this is the cutest 'green' bag I have seen! Yay for bunnies!!

I love the bag! It's adorable and I love how nicely it folds down. It's an adorable bag and I think my mom would love it if I win it.
PRECIOUS! I am more excited than ever to do everything I can to help clean our planet... I am an interior designer and just happened to link to you through a series of fortunate clicks at work!
This is a great idea and an even greater image! I love the green bunny. I can't wait to get my sewing machine back up and running so I can make some tote bags and use my "fake screenprinting" method to decorate them!

Great Vow, I am right there with you. I would love to carry all of my purchases in your beautiful bag! lowercasek@gmail.com
Those bags are awesome!
I hate buying plastic bags, and always bring my own canvas bags when going shopping, but I guess one never can have too many cute ones around. Or if that would be the case, it's nice to have friends that can be given those as gifts then :)
Thats adorable!!! Love the green part about it too!
The bunny image is so terribly cute. I'd love to receive one in the mail after Valentine's day. I have a bunch of varied totes that I use most of the time, but so often they are full or I need just one more.
great bag design. i can always use another shopping bag.
they are great! nice job!
Bunny is just too cute
